ELIZABETH, NJ — Firefighters responded to a two-story house fire on the 200 Block of Westfield Ave. shortly after 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The blaze quickly escalated to 4 alarms with smoke that could be seen for miles before it was brought under control. Companies from Rahway, Hillside, Union, Cranford, Scotch Plains and Westfield were on scene for mutual aid, along with Union County EMS and Trinitas Medic 41.

The fire appeared to have started on the second floor and no injuries were reported, authorities said. While there was a concern of the fire spreading to the adjacent homes on each side, firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the one structure.
