WESTFIELD, NJ — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out in a detached garage behind garden apartments at 55A Sandra Circle Monday evening.

Crews prevented the blaze, which started around 6 p.m., from spreading to nearby buildings, a resident who saw the fire from his apartment said.

The resident, Ryan Haney, 35, said he witnessed firefighters cutting through the roof to get at the blaze.

Nobody was injured, a first responder on the scene said. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
