WESTFIELD, NJ — Over 20 years ago, James and John Ward would give away 10 to 20 turkeys to those who were in need.

The effort grew and it has become a family event that continues to this day.

This Thanksgiving season, the brothers and their families delivered hundreds of turkeys purchased from Al’s Prime Meat & Deli in Garwood to people in need, including at the Church of St. Mary in Elizabeth to be distributed to others.

“We started this tradition to give back and be thankful for what we have,” said James Ward in a release. “It’s very special that it has grown to what it is today and that our families are doing it with us.”

The Wards also donated turkeys directly to underprivileged families in Newark and Elizabeth.

“It’s a lot of fun loading and delivering the turkeys, made even more special having our children continue the tradition with us,” John Ward added.
