CRANFORD, NJ — Chanese White of Roselle and Erica Kenny of Cranford pleaded not guilty on Friday when appearing in court on charges of child abuse, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.

The women are accused of instigating fights among children who were under their care at the Lightbridge Academy located in Cranford on South Avenue East, the prosecutor's office announced this earlier this week.

As both defendants appeared in court Friday, they indicated an intent to retain an attorney. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, before Judge William Daniel.
