UNION COUNTY, NJ — The Union County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that Independence Day fireworks scheduled to take place in its parks have been canceled this year due to COVID-19.

The announcement includes fireworks that were previously scheduled to take place at the following sites:

  • Cranford's fireworks scheduled to take place in Nomahegan Park on July 2. 
  • Plainfield's fireworks scheduled to take place in Cedar Brook Park on July 4.
  • Springfield's fireworks scheduled to take place in Meisel Park on July 4.
  • Rahway fireworks, which uses Rahway Park as a viewing area but are shot off from an adjacent location. The display was scheduled for July 3. 

According to the announcement, the annual Cranford Jaycees Firecracker 4 Miler and 1 Mile Fun Run held in Nomahegan Park on July 4 has also been canceled.
