The Musical Club of Westfield is presenting the next in its series of monthly concerts, which are open to the public free of charge, on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 170 Elm. Street, Westfield. [The concert was originally scheduled for March 7 but has been rescheduled due to the snow storm.]

Pianist John Blasdale will begin the concert with one of his own compositions, Elegy in E minor, Op.6a. This will be followed by Schubert’s Impromptu in G Flat Major, Op. 90, No. 3. Mr. Blasdale will end the first section of the program with Beethoven’s Sonata in F sharp Major, Op. 78.

The second portion of the evening concert will feature mezzo-soprano Drude Crane who will perform Frauenliebe und Leben, “Woman’s Love and Life”, a song cycle by Robert Schumann, written in 1840, with text by the French-born German poet Adelbert von Chamisso. The cycle includes eight songs, all of them written for the female voice with piano accompaniment. Mrs. Crane will be accompanied by Helen Ryba on the piano. The text of the songs is written from a woman’s perspective and presents an evolving view of love and life.
