WESTFIELD, NJ — Amid a critical holiday shopping season for local retailers, the town has started its annual free parking two weeks earlier than it typically would.
Free parking in municipal lots and metered street spaces started in Downtown Westfield on Saturday and continues until Jan. 3, town officials announced.
But don’t hog those spots. Time limits still apply, officials said. The limit is two hours in street spaces and four hours in municipal parking with pay stations.
Officials said the extended free parking is among a series of efforts to get people to shop locally this season amid the pandemic, which has deeply impacted business at local shops.
