Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, 2:30 p.m. at St.Joseph's Parish Community Center in Hillsbourough, The Westfield School of Dance presents its fifth annual Holiday Performance, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, A Story Ballet adapted from the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale.
The performance is free to the public. In lieu of ticket sales, guests are asked to bring an item to fulfill the “Wish List” of The Ronald McDonald House, New Brunswick, NJ, and/or The Arc of Somerset County.
“The kids have always wanted to do a Nutcracker, which is your traditional holiday ballet,” said Joanne Carey, Artistic Director of WSOD. “I wanted the dancers to be exposed to something a little different and at the same time create a ballet that would tell the story of love and acceptance, especially if we would perform it at Christmastime. It is our way of giving to those who may feel alone or who are suffering during the holidays.”
For Westfield School of Dance, The Steadfast Tin Soldier is the perfect story. Children of the dance studio dance every role and the performance is designed for a casual and relaxed afternoon for families and friends complete with narration. It is timeless with its own sense of magic and the best part is that the children are very aware that their performance is helping make someone’s life a little better.
The ballet has been performed in Westfield as well as at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick and this year will be performed for those living in the group homes provided by the ARC of Somerset County. The special needs community and any child or families with a child suffering with illness are invited to attend the free performance as the studio’s guest.
You can contact The Westfield School of Dance to make a reservation at 908-789-3011 or, if you would like to provide an item from the Wish List.
Merry Christmas from our heart to yours!
