WESTFIELD, NJ — As the National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory for the area until 11 a.m., Westfield Police Chief David Wayman issued a Nixel alert Sunday morning telling people to use caution if driving.

“Roads are slippery due to ice conditions. Please drive only if necessary,” he wrote.

A weather alert on the town of Westfield’s website reads, “Please walk and drive with extreme care on Sunday morning as widespread frost and ice has resulted in treacherous conditions. If possible, avoid going out until later in the day. Temperatures are expected to rise into the low 40s.”
