Whether you’re starting to stress about bathing suit season or just want to replace your daily coffee or soda with something different, then you need to stop in to Downtown Cranford’s newest business, Fresh Press Juice Co. The store is owned by sisters Deven Burgio and Lauren Miller, both of whom share a love for juicing and healthy food.

Lauren was introduced to juicing six years ago by a co-worker and she was hooked immediately. She then proceeded to get her entire family into juicing and in 2013 her sister suggested they open their own juice store. The sisters searched the area for the perfect spot and ended up falling in love with the location in Cranford.

Fresh Press Juice Co. offers two types of juice: Cold-Pressed and Centrifugal. The cold-pressed juices are done with a Norwalk Juicer and are pre-bottled. They will stay good in the fridge for 3 days and come in varieties like The Healer (apple, cucumber, celery, parsley, lemon, and ginger), Vedge Out (carrot, spinach, kale, parsley, cucumber, and celery), and Green Aid(apple, swiss chard, spinach, and lemon). These juices are also used in cleanses offered by the shop. In comparison, the Centrifugal juices are created on-site and customers can make up their own combinations or choose an option from the menu.

Fresh Press Juice Co. also sells Banana Whips (frozen bananas blended into a creamy consistency), shots of wheatgrass, smoothies, and granola. All of the food is organic, vegan, and gluten-free. The shop also sells cold-press coffee which offers a less acidic brew than hot-brewed iced coffee. The sisters are planning to introduce salads and cold-pressed tea in the near future.

When asked to choose their favorite juices or smoothies Deven picked Good Girl Mary which mixes up tomato, celery, cucumber, carrot, parsley, and lemon. Lauren has a soft spot for theirTropical Rose smoothie made with coconut water, strawberry, banana, and pineapple, as it’s named after their Grandmother. The passion that Lauren and Deven bring to their business is one that lets you know you’re in good hands as soon as you walk through the door. Stop by, try some juice, and welcome Downtown Cranford’s newest business to town.

2018 Municipal Budget is on Collision Course with Principles of Financial Soundness & Stability

April 18, 2018

Having chaired the town council’s finance committee in the recent past, I appreciate the hard work that goes into developing a municipal budget for a town as large and dynamic as Westfield. But as I have expressed publicly and also to the mayor and my council colleagues, I do not support the adoption of Westfield’s 2018 municipal budget. Although the budget contains much that I ...

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
