Family Promise of Union County is currently in need of donations of fresh produce. At present, due to the Covid-19 crisis, guest families are safely housed in apartments instead of area churches. The Program Staff continues to provide a supportive community to current and “alumni” (80+) families.
The Family Promise Pantry is an important piece of the safety net for these adults and children. Donations of fresh produce for the Pantry are so greatly appreciated, for all the reasons we each want delicious, nutritious, fresh food ourselves.
FUMC Westfield is working to organize deliveries of fresh produce to the Family Promise Pantry each week. The supply chain for vegetables and fruit will come from multiple sources—FUMC members, community members, FUMC’s vegetable garden, and local Farm Markets included. Produce will then be delivered to Family Promise Day Center in Elizabeth on Monday mornings.
Produce donations should be left in the large, brown box at the FUMC Westfield parking lot entrance on Saturdays and Sundays. (FUMC Westfield is located at 1 East Broad Street, but for GPS directions to the parking lot, please use 140 Ferris Place.) A shopping list from the Day Center will provide guidance on what is needed. FUMC members will provide cold storage and packing of produce prior to delivery. The Church’s office will be available to receive any questions by emailing email@example.com.
