WESTFIELD, NJ--Fire Chief Daniel Kelly told TAP that the perceived major gas leak below Downtown Westfield is nothing to be alarmed about after local area businesses were found to be negative for gas and only low level readings of methane were detected in the sewer system.

"The situation is under control," said Kelly.

North Avenue was closed between Prospect and Broad this morning after PSE&G workers noticed a strong odor of gas while working underground.
