Come to the Westfield Farmers Market (South Ave of train parking lot) between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 30, and get a free reusable shopping bag. In order to complete her Gold award for Girl Scouts, Megan Webber, a junior at Westfield High School, will give away 100 bags this week to increase awareness of the environmental issues of plastic bags.
In her research about the environmental impact of plastic bags, Megan learned that over 100 billion plastic bags are used in the United States annually. It takes 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down into tiny pieces and plastic bags do not ever biodegrade.
"Our community can make a difference. If each household in Westfield uses one reusable bag every time they shop our town could save over 3,000,000 bags a year," commented Webber.
Please come to the Farmer's Market and support "One Bag at a Time" and do your part to help the environment.
