Girls on the Run is back in Union County this spring, with three teams for middle school girls in Clark, Union and Westfield, starting the week of April 19.
Heart & Sole is Girls on the Run’s middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade. The program cultivates the whole girl — body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection — allowing girls to learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and strengthen connections.
Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness and teach life skills such as team building, creating a support system, and standing up for themselves and others.
Trained volunteer coaches lead girls through an 8-week season to prepare for a celebratory 5K event in June. This non-competitive event builds confidence as girls work towards their goal, and their sense of accomplishment when crossing the finish line lasts a lifetime.
Practices begin this week in Clark, Union and Westfield.
The Clark Heart & Sole team will meet at Brewer Recreation Center on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:15 – 5:30 p.m.
The Union Heart & Sole team will meet at Union High School track on Wednesdays, 6 – 7:15 p.m. and Saturdays 9 – 10:15 a.m.
The Westfield Heart & Sole team will meet at Tamaques Park on Wednesdays from 5:15 – 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10-11:15 a.m.
Girls on the Run New Jersey East is celebrating 20 years of inspiring girls in 3rd-8th grades to be joyful, healthy and confident.
