RAHWAY, NJ – The Union County Prosecutor’s office is investigating how a grandmother ended up in the hospital Friday after the car she was in was pulled over by a Clark police officer, spokesman Mark Spivey confirmed to TAP into Clark. The incident occurred near the intersection of Stone Street and Mayfair Drive, near the border of Clark, at approximately noon on Friday, Spivey confirmed.
According to a report by Channel 7 News, Clark Police pulled over a car driven by Fortunato Riga for running a stop sign. Riga’s mother, Antoniette Dilorio, was hospitalized after police allegedly threw her to the ground, the report said, after she tried to intervene. Also in the car was Riga's 5-year-old son. Riga was issued several violations, the report said.
Clark Police declined to comment.
