Before we fret about the impact on the changes to the tax code, limited real estate tax deductions, upcoming changes to home value assessments and/or interest rates rising, let’s talk about our wonderful area and all we have to be grateful for. As we enjoy this holiday season, look toward the New Year, and reflect upon the blessings in our lives, it would be nice to recognize how grateful we are to live in this area. A uniquely charming collection of towns, it has the perks of both urban and suburban living, from a vibrant downtown and cultural scene to stately homes and highly regarded schools. From the friendly residents to our excellent police forces this is an amazing community, and I have compiled a list of some of the many great features of the area.
The area is situated in a prime location, as it is less than an hour’s drive to both the shore and New York City. As a result of its highly desirable and convenient location, it has stable home values that have been steadily increasing. There is also ample transportation as it is near many major roadways, and has convenient train and bus stations.
A major reason why so many people choose to live in this area is because of the award-winning school systems. Both the Westfield and Scotch Plains-Fanwood districts have long been recognized for its great schools, and we are also near a number of parochial and private schools. Because of our diverse population, the kids have a chance to interact with students from different walks of life and learn from each others’ experiences. There is also a wonderful array of churches, synagogues, and other places of worship throughout the area, which reflects our diverse population.
There is no shortage of recreation in the area, as there are local movie theaters, libraries, parks, country clubs, community centers, and more. The towns regularly hold events such as the Downtown Westfield 5K, Fanny Wood Day and Scotch Plains Music Festival, so there is always something fun and exciting going on for the family.
Last but not least, the bustling Westfield downtown has an array of restaurants and stores, ranging from national department and chain stores to local mom-and-pop shops and restaurants. With everything from Trader Joe’s for groceries, to Lord & Taylor for clothes and accessories, to Williams Sonoma for home furnishings, all your shopping can be done right in town.
