MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce hosted lunch with guest speaker Senator Tom Kean, Jr, Wednesday at Famous Dave’s BBQ in Mountainside. The New Jersey state senator spoke about what’s happening in Trenton and how it affects businesses.
Kean told chamber members that he is pushing for legislation that would make it easier for people to live their entire lives in New Jersey, going to college, getting jobs and retiring here. New Jersey needs affordability, opportunity and transportation, he said. Many of the questions he fielded involved how legislators might make taxes more affordable.
Kean said he would continue to push for a direct ride on the Raritan Valley train line to and from New York City during peak hours, calling the one-seat ride an economic growth vehicle going both east and west.
“I’ve been successful getting the shoulders of the peak in,” he noted. Next, he said, he hopes to get the Raritan Valley line one direct train through the tunnel during the morning rush and one during the evening rush.
Kean earned applause from the crowd when he said he hopes new legislation passes that will make it possible for vendors to sell craft beers at the Westfield Farmer’s Market.
