CRANFORD, NJ — Westfield High School gymnasts won the Cougar Classic Thursday for the fourth year in a row with a score of 105.9, led by all-around individual high scorers Sarah Fox (35.225), Carlie Fasano (34.8) and Kaela Azzaretto (34.55), with help from Megan Melillo on bars, Lexi Holzer on beam and Molly Greenberg on floor.
Melillo, a senior, scored a 9.35 on bars — a record high for her high school career, according to head coach Amanda Diaz.
"The girls have been working hard the past few weeks to stick every landing and solidify their beam routines. The competition is tough this year, but with the right mindset and lots of hard work, the girls knew a win was possible,” Diaz said.
The team sported leotards with pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“I think the debut of their new leotards also pumped them up for the Cougar Classic,” Diaz said.
