UPDATED AUG. 7

WESTFIELD, NJ — A heat advisory issued for the area by the National Weather Service Monday remains in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday as the combination of heat and humidity makes it feel like it is 95 to 100 degrees outside.

Need a place to cool down? Westfield Memorial Library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday).

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location, the National Weather Service said, and in cases of heat stroke you should call 911.
