Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss, is excited to welcome back participants from 45 different NJ towns in September after our summer break. Imagine exists to provide support to children and families after a life-altering diagnosis or a death, in a safe environment where children and adults acquire the tools they need to become more resilient and learn healthy ways to cope with difficult and painful feelings. Imagine serves participants age 3-18 and young adults 18-30. Parents and guardians of the youth participate in concurrent support groups.
Imagine is based on the Dougy Center model in Portland Oregon, founded over 30 years ago as the first year-round children's grief support center for youth coping with loss due to death. Imagine peer grief support groups are free and are available as long as the participant needs the support. Currently, bereavement groups meet every other Monday or Tuesday and monthly on Wednesdays for families living with an illness.
To attend Imagine, the first step is for a family to call and make an appointment for an orientation. Imagine is not a counseling or therapy program, but rather a peer support model where people meet with others their same age in small groups of approximately ten people per group for one and a half hours. Pizza is provided before the groups so families can have dinner together as well as with their group participants.
Groups are facilitated by trained adult volunteers who make a year-long commitment to facilitate the support groups every other week. For more information about participation or to volunteer contact Imagine at email@example.com or 908-264-3100.
Imagine is a free year-round children’s grief support center that serves NJ children age 3-18 and young adults 18-30 who are grieving the death of a parent or sibling, or who are living with a parent of sibling with a life-altering illness. Imagine also provides grief education and training for thousands of teachers, parents, coaches, youth and other adults annually.
