WESTFIELD, NJ—Yesterday, New Jersey’s first flagship Jude Connally women’s clothing and accessories shop held its grand opening at 111 Central Avenue in Downtown Westfield. Designer Jude Connally herself was there to tell women about the colorful, fun and surprisingly comfortable clothing she designs for them.

It was only three years ago that Connally got the idea to design clothes that make women look and feel great. At the time, she was running in a half-marathon.

The fabric that Connally uses feels similar to her running clothes.  It’s a Nylon-Spandex blend that hangs well for a flattering appearance, doesn’t wrinkle in a drawer or suitcase and can be thrown in the washing machine at the end of the day.

“We really feel like getting dressed should not be a huge effort. It really should be effortless,” said Michelle Ruggiero, General Manager for Jude Connally, who was also on hand all that day.

Connally’s dresses, tops, leggings and resort wear (which include skorts, shorts, skirts, tops and dresses) use mostly bold prints and brilliant colors.

“Most women have only solids in their closets and that’s their go-to and they feel safe,” said Connally. And most of their clothes, she noted, lack color. “Women do not have enough color in their lives,” she said.

But when women try on her colorful prints, “It makes them happy,” Connally said. “My whole philosophy is making women feel good about themselves.”

The styles are flattering for many body types.  “We’re real women and they’re real dresses for real women,” Connally said. Sizes range from XS to XL.

In addition to all shapes, “Women of all ages are wearing these,” she said.

For inspiration, Connally looks everywhere—including fashion, interior design and even gardening magazines.

“It’s really instinctive,” said Connally. “I don’t think that trend matters.”

Look at the tags and you will notice that Connally’s designs have names—some are named for her dear friends, others for people who have inspired her.

Until recently, Jude Connally designs were available in New Jersey only at high-end shops and specialty boutiques.  This is the first store in New Jersey to carry strictly Jude Connally merchandise. The clothes themselves are made in Manhattan’s Garment District.

“We’ve been really happy with the quality we’ve been getting. And we’re happy we’re working with people in the U.S.,” said Ruggiero.

Shoppers in Westfield can expect to see more of Connally and team, as their headquarters are based in Kenilworth. “We pop in and out so we can hear from our customers directly,” revealed Ruggiero.

2018 Municipal Budget is on Collision Course with Principles of Financial Soundness & Stability

April 18, 2018

Having chaired the town council’s finance committee in the recent past, I appreciate the hard work that goes into developing a municipal budget for a town as large and dynamic as Westfield. But as I have expressed publicly and also to the mayor and my council colleagues, I do not support the adoption of Westfield’s 2018 municipal budget. Although the budget contains much that I ...

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
