WESTFIELD, NJ — Valentine’s Day is coming up fast. Are you having trouble finding a gift for the guy in your life?

“Valentine’s Day is a lot of pressure,” Marc Oren, a Westfield resident and owner of Kennedy’s All-American Barber Club downtown said. “It feels like we just finished the holidays and already we're buying another gift. At Kennedy’s, we make it easy.”

Kennedy’s offers haircuts and straight razor shaves, as well as additional services including hair coloring, facials, manicures and membership packages.

Oren said he is frequently asked, “Why is a straight razor shave any different?"

“It's a different experience for your face,” he explained. “Your beard is not normally treated to this much pampering. Your face and your hair follicles actually behave differently, better than they do when you shave in the shower or at your sink. We apply a lot of care and precision to how we shave you. After you get a hot shave with a straight razor blade, you'll find your face behaves so much better at home. It’s remarkable.”

Men especially enjoy the ability to come in as often as they like with their memberships, he noted.

“We have clients who come in every two weeks,” Oren said. “Sometimes more.”

All of the barbers here have at least five years of experience — most have more. Services are available by appointment, so there’s no waiting around for your turn.  When clients show up early they enjoy hot coffee by Ahrre’s Coffee Roastery, a pool table and four big screen TVs in the club.

Dads often bring their boys to the shop to hang out and unlimited kids’s cuts are a part of Kennedy's packages.

“It’s a family place,” Oren explained. “Kids of members can come in with or without Dad.”

The shop also carries a unique collection of luxury shaving products, styling products, men’s socks and the Original Retro Brand t-shirts.

Call Kennedy’s at 908-233-0360 or visit them at 226 North Ave. West.

What clients are saying:

“Kennedy's is not just about getting a shave and a haircut, although Katie has always given me a great haircut, and the hot shaves with accompanying hand massage are the perfect stress relief after long days. Kennedy's is a ‘one hour vacation destination’ where you can relax, watch a game, shoot some pool or just hang out with other guys. The ambience is welcoming, the music is great — I am constantly singing during my visits. It genuinely feels like an upscale barber club for men, not a beauty salon where I would feel like the only male client. I've been a member since Kennedy's opened and have no desire to have my hair cut anywhere else.” —Marc Herzog

“I live and work in Westfield, and love having Kennedy's in town. The people and atmosphere are fantastic — they are friendly, fun and do a great job on my hair.” — David  Fink

“The value both financially and convenience-wise of a Kennedy’s Barber Club membership in a no-brainer. As a father of two and with a busy schedule, I am able to easily get in and out on a weekly basis for a haircut and shave for myself and my children. The fact that the majority of the staff have been with the shop since the grand opening and that they know all their members and family members makes the experience much more enjoyable and relaxing. (My 5-year-old son can attest to that).

“The social aspect of being a member is great, through member events such as March Madness challenge (I am the defending champ and first-ever winner) to tastings (wine, liquor or beer) or holiday parties have allowed me to meet other members who I have become friends and have done business with them. The location is perfect, just right across the street from the train station, which allows a member to hop off the train, have a beer and haircut all before dinner time at home. If you’re new to the area, or a new dad with sons, being a member at Kennedy’s is the way to go ... Go to the best — that’s Kennedy’s.” – Peter Falco

Staying On Top

Some people are bulldozers. They move mountains, conquer countries, achieve the seemingly impossible. But then when there are no more mountains to climb, they falter. Routines, maintenance and sustainability are not their strong points. They respond to excitement and challenge, not to the uneventful, monotonous daily grind.

The title word of this week's Parshah, Tzav, means ...

Can I Change My Partner?

March 21, 2018

Couples oftentimes look to change the “other.” “If only” the other would make these changes, or do as I say, our relationship would be great. We tend to focus on the other. We tend to focus on changing the other. We tend to focus on the other’s negative behavior. Couples like to report what their spouse/partner is doing and how they are ...
