Kids for Kids a Mindfulness Movement will be offering two day workshops for both boys and girls ages 6-13. Kids for Kids has run numerous retreats to date and are thrilled to be able to offer another round of workshops.
Join us on February 17th for the boy’s workshop and February 20th for the girls at Fanwood Presbyterian Church at 74 S. Martine Ave., Fanwood, NJ. Both workshops begin at 9 a.m. with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will end at 12:30 p.m. will a full day option available ending at 3 p.m.
Throughout the day, the children will be involved in mindful activities to help them build new skills, learn how to be open, and cultivate awareness. Karen Gilmour, the Director of the Kids Program at alluemyoga.com in Cranford, will be leading the yoga and meditation section. Karen will guide the children through practice to help them connect physically and mentally as she creates a sense of calm and centering.
Andy Pearce and Jennifer Yoder of Impact Soccer impact-soccer.org will be leading the workshop on Team Building. Andy and Jennifer have been teaching and training thousands of children throughout New Jersey. The kids will be led in exercises teaching them to work together as one in a fun, interactive and cooperative way!
Arielle Cassidy, owner of The Juice House in Garwood juicehousenj.com, is completing her masters in nutrition and is very passionate about working with young people and educating them on mindful & healthy eating. When kids (and grown-ups!) use all five senses and take some deep mindful breaths before eating; they can establish a slow and connected way of nourishing themselves.
The full day option involves mindful activities and games to help kid’s further connection and interpersonal skills along with doodling, journaling and creative art to inspire relaxation and focus. Mindful activities will include making your own relaxing silly putty (infused with DoTerra essential oils - donated by Christa Teevan!). Kids for Kids staff will also assist participants to create kid led group games, such: follow the leader hand game aka “chief”, "I want to know someone who"…insert kid inspired question. All games will help with interpersonal skills and connection.
Lastly, STOP MOTION and mindfulness!! Stop motion animation is animation that is captured one frame at a time, with physical objects that are moved between frames. When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it creates the illusion of movement! We will be using an app called stikbot while moving “mini robots” mindfully and with purpose to create a short story about what calm and focus means to each child involved. Kids will work in pairs and in close collaboration with a staff member from Kids for Kids during this workshop.
DETAILS: Snacks will be provided for all and lunch provided for those attending full day. Registration closes February 13th, so register today! You can find more information on our website mindfulkidsforkids.com/services under the Services & Events tab with the links to register and pay. Kids for Kids is a group of multidisciplinary professionals who are committed to bringing mindfulness to children. We do this through full and half day retreats, special events and speaker series, one on one counseling, small groups, and community outreach in schools, nonprofit agencies, places of worship, and local businesses that work with children and young adults. We also help kids who attend our programs create kid led service projects in the surrounding community.
