As your Ward 1 Councilwoman and Finance Chair, I am leading the ongoing efforts to maintain Westfield’s AAA bond rating, modernize our financial protocols, and invest excess surplus into long-needed infrastructure improvements and equipment—like the unprecedented 20-miles of road paved this year. And all while achieving a 0% municipal tax increase for the first time!
In updating the Town’s cash management program, we doubled our interest earned for 2018. I incubated our new Investment Advisory Council, comprised of resident-volunteers specializing in borrowing and investments. And in an effort to identify best practices and shared services, I’m establishing quarterly meetings with all twenty-one CFOs and Finance Committee Chairs in Union County.
I’m proud of what I and Mayor Brindle have accomplished in just 19 months—and there’s so much more we need to do. I’m looking forward to finally having an active and engaged partner to help represent Ward 1. This is why I support Jim Boyes for Ward 1 Town Council.
I encouraged Jim to run because of the 110% approach he takes to everything he does. He has the can-do spirit necessary to help lead us away from the complacency of old, and into the future of what Westfield can be.
Jim is an environmental engineer, a long-time resident, and is already doing important work for residents as a Community Connect captain, and active member of the reinstated Green Team—where he’s enthusiastically leading the way toward a more sustainable Westfield.
You can regularly find Jim in the audience during Town Council meetings, proactively learning more about the first community-driven Master Plan process for Downtown, our parks, and pedestrian and bicycle safety. Having served on the mayor’s parking advisory council in 2001, Jim remained abreast of the issues that impact our residents—with accessibility of parking being at the top.
Jim is reliable, and an unshakable advocate for historic preservation, peak one-seat rides for commuters like himself, and smart development that enriches our community for generations to come.
Over these final few weeks, I’ll be joining Jim as he continues to knock on every door in Ward 1. We want to hear from you, and look forward to working together on delivering results. Keep an eye out for us, and be sure to VOTE Jim Boyes for Ward 1 on November 5th!
