CRANFORD, NJ — An explosion heard in Cranford Wednesday has led to the arrest of 26-year old Michael Kossup of Linden, NJ, according to authorities. Kossup has been charged with Possession of Prohibited Destructive Devices (3rd Degree); Possession of Under 50g (Marijuana); and Possession of Paraphernalia.
On Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 7:06 p.m. the Cranford Police Department received information that an explosion was heard in the area of Raritan Road and Summit Terrace, police said. Through a joint investigation with the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Linden Police Department, the Cranford Police Department Detective Bureau identified a suspect through surveillance video and eyewitness accounts.
With the assistance of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, the Union County S.W.A.T. Team, the Union County Bomb Squad, the Union County Sheriff's Department, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force, a search warrant was executed Thursday on the suspect's home in Linden.
Kossup was processed at Cranford Police Headquarters and provided with a Union County Superior Court appearance date.
