WESTFIELD, NJ – Residents of Westfield and neighboring communities continue to rally behind a local family coping with a loss.
Matt Calder, a Westfield resident, passed away on July 2 leaving behind a loving wife, three boys and a community of people touched by his generosity and years of community involvement.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the family, specifically costs associated with the boys’ future education.
“I coached with Matt for years, and to say he gave tirelessly would be an understatement,” shared fellow coach, friend, and GoFundMe campaign organizer Mike Ludwig. “He loved being around the rink, spending time with his kids, and treating all of our kids like his own. When he believed in something, he stood behind it and always followed through.”
Calder was well-known throughout local communities through his years of coaching for the Cranford Hockey Club and Westfield Hockey Club.
“They are such a great family, and they couldn’t be greater kids,” Ludwig stated of the Calder boys. “It’s such a tragedy, and we just need to do anything we can to help these boys get to the next phase. This is their new normal.”
The Calder Education Fund GoFundMe campaign has raised over $70,000 to date. If you’d like to donate to the family, click here.
