WESTFIELD, NJ — In a letter to the editor submitted to TAP into Westfield Wednesday morning, Westfield Board of Education President Richad Mattessich announced that he has decided to drop out of this year’s election.

“As my friends on the board and in the administration know, this summer I decided not to seek a third term on the board. I have had the great pleasure of serving as a member of the board for over six years, and as president of the board during the last four of those years,” Mattessich wrote.

This leaves three candidates on the ballot to fill three seats on the board — incumbent Gretchan Ohlig and newcomers Robert Garrison and Charles Ostroff.

“ … I take great comfort in the fact that our board will continue to be served by three members of the public who have decided to run for office and who will no doubt continue our Tradition of Excellence in education,” Mattessich wrote.

The election will take place Nov. 3.
