Mayor Skibitsky was invited to be a keynote speaker at the Chatham County, Georgia Emergency Management Conference on Hurricane Planning and Preparedness. The mayor and Town Administrator, Jim Gildea, also hosted two workshops at the Conference.

The mayor spoke about the importance of communication to residents during a time of emergency, and specifically about the utility of town-wide conference calls in combination with social and traditional media. About 4,600 phones were connected to the conference calls, reaching an estimated 10,000 people. The Savannah Morning News noted that the purpose of the Hurricane Conference, according to the director of the Chatam County Emergency Management Agency, is to facilitate the exchange of ideas such as the conference calls. The conference visit was at zero expense to taxpayers.
