WESTFIELD, NJ — About 25 people chipped in to provide Thanksgiving dinners to on-duty members of the Westfield Police Department, Westfield Fire Department and Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad in November. Now organizer Rory Chadwick hopes to do it again for Christmas.
“These men and women are out there protecting us and saving lives and on Christmas Day,” Chadwick said. “I'm sure they'll appreciate knowing a community came together to make their work day a better one.”
Vine Ripe Markets has offered to sell the first responders' dinners at below cost, which will include salads, stuffed shells, vegetables, roasted potatoes, stuffed pork loin, cookies and breads.
“When I heard what Rory had done for Thanksgiving I immediately reached out to him and asked if I can contribute to anything he is doing for Christmas,” Vine Ripe Markets co-owner Frank Bruno said. “My father is a retired NYC sergeant so I know first-hand the job these brave men and women do. Here at Vine Ripe Markets we are always trying to give back to the community.”
Chadwick’s goal is to collect $850 for the dinners. He is collecting donations via Venmo to @rory-chadwick or by cash or check in his mailbox at 408 West Broad St. in Westfield.
