MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — Route 22 reopened at about 6 p.m. Wednesday after a multiple vehicle crash at Lawrence Avenue in Mountainside closed the highway in both directions around 12:30 p.m.

According to a 12:28 p.m. report from the Breaking News Network, there were multiple injuries reported with possible entrapments. Hazmat was requested to the scene. 

Route 22 remained closed going East between Glenside Avenue and Lawrence Avenue until 6 p.m. as cleanup continued, according to alerts by Union County. The county said there were extensive delays on both sides of highway and in the entire area. It advised drivers to plan ahead and seek an alternate route.
