With great sorrow, the Musical Club of Westfield notes the passing of our member Debra Parente-Rosin on Thursday, Sept. 8. Debbie performed for the Musical Club regularly, and many members will have met her husband Christopher, and her sons Michael and Justin who are active in the musical life of our community.
Viewing will be at Gray’s Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield, on Friday, Sept. 16, 4 to 8 p.m. The memorial service in celebration of Debbie’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m., in the sanctuary of The First Baptist Church, 170 Elm Street, Westfield, New Jersey 07090. The family invites all to a repast following the service in the church hall.
Debbie held a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Montclair State University and a Master of Arts from Kean University and had been teaching piano for more than 35 years. She was a singer and voice teacher/coach who worked as soloist for the Westfield Presbyterian Church and performed in operas in local opera companies. She performed in musical theater in Union and Bergen counties and sang in a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Carnegie Hall under the baton of David Randolph.
She held the position of Music Department Head at Passaic Collegiate School and Adjunct Professor at Union County College. She co-directed musicals in area schools and accompanied local choirs. Also, she served as adjudicator for The Piano Teacher’s Society of America and The Music Educators Association of New Jersey piano auditions.
She will be greatly missed, and we know that you share in the Musical Club's offering of condolences to Chris, Michael and Justin Rosin.
