New Jersey Festival Orchestra (NJFO) will be back with a roar on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Get in the mood, and join David Wroe and NJFO for SWING TIME — a live performance of blistering hits from the big band era guaranteed to chase the blues away.

Come bounce and sway to the irresistible rhythms of swing standards from the 30s to the 50s as NJFO changes gear to deliver the authentic sounds of a modern big band in full flight.

The audience can expect to hear NJFO musicians perform selections from the legendary bands of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and many more, organizers said. Favorite tunes like “In the Mood,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Happy Days” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo” are all on the program.

“The music is fabulous and just what we all need,” said NJFO Music Director and Band Leader David Wroe. “In a way, it’s the perfect answer to the crisis we’re in, just like the original music in the 1930s was an answer to the Great Depression.”

“Hits from that era are infused with an optimism that is going to strike a chord with many lockdown-weary listeners today,” Wroe said, “so I encourage everyone to come on out and have some fun!”

Should you choose …. bring your dancing shoes! With wide open space for both listening and dancing at this socially distanced music event, Swing Time! will delight music lovers and swing dancers of all ages.

The outdoor live performance will take place in the spacious gardens at the rear of 241 E. Dudley Avenue in Westfield. Audience members are invited to bring a lawn chair, cushion or blanket.

“The safety of our patrons, musicians and staff is our top concern,” said NJFO Executive Director Zachary Blutner. “Safety protocols and social distancing will be strictly observed. Masks will be required for audience members, who will be seated in groups of up to four people. Groups will be spaced six feet apart.”

The concert, which has been made possible in part through the generous support of the PNC Foundation, begins at 2 p.m. and will last about an hour. The rain date is set for Oct. 18 at the same time.

Tickets ($150 for a pod which accommodates up to 4 people) are available by advance reservation only. Pod tickets can be purchased online at or by calling 908-232-9400. Patrons will be seated on arrival on a first come, first served basis.
