WESTFIELD, NJ—When ownership of Westfield Animal Hospital (357 South Avenue East) changed hands from Dr. Ronald Swist to Dr. Anthony Loomis and Dr. Scott Linick in June, the practice not only expanded from one doctor to four—with Dr. Swist staying on and Dr. Kathleen Neumann, as well as certified technicians, joining the staff—it also expanded hours and services.

The hospital’s new hours are Monday through Friday,  8 a.m. to  7 p.m.,  and Saturdays , 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Appointment slots are now 30 minutes, allowing for more one-on-one time between patients and veterinarians. House calls are an option, as well.

Additionally, the practice has expanded to treat not only dogs and cats but birds, reptiles and other exotic and “pocket pets.”

In the next six months, the hospital will be expanded. Meanwhile, the facilities currently being used are undergoing renovations to not only improve appearance but to upgrade equipment, as well. Already it has added digital x-rays, improved anesthetic and monitoring equipment, computerized medical records and increased laboratory capabilities. The boarding facilities are also being updated and the hospital will begin offering dog daycare services later this year.

In addition to all of this, more advanced dentistry is available for dogs and cats, as well.

It’s all part of a plan to offer the best medical care in a small-practice setting. “People really appreciate it when they can walk in the door and I know their pet’s name and know their kids’ names,” said Dr. Loomis.

The longer appointment times and personal attention come at no additional cost to clientele. “Our prices are probably less than some of the larger practices,” said Dr. Loomis.

Dr. Loomis grew up in Scotch Plains and remembers going with his pets to Westfield Animal Hospital when he was a child. “It’s a great town and the clientele has been really nice to work with. They’re excited about the new care we’ve been providing.”
