FANWOOD, NJ — Thinking outside the box, Nick's Pizza will deliver pizza and poetry when customers order pies on Friday, April 28.

As part of a literacy program, Nick's teamed up with Park Middle School in Scotch Plains and will feature more than 300 original poems written by seventh grade students taped to delivery boxes. The effort was initiated by writing teacher Alexandra Hanner.

"I thought this was a great way to give the students an authentic audience for their writing," Hanner said.  "It is a great way to promote literacy in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community."

"Ms. Hanner was Nick Watterson's teacher when he attended Park Middle School," said Rob Watterson of Nick's Pizza, which was named after his younger brother. "When we asked Nick if he remembered her, he said 'Yeah she's so awesome.' After organizing such a great idea to promote education and creativity, I really see what he meant. She is awesome."
