SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Firefighters successfully extinguished a fire on Tuesday evening at 34 Wareham Court located in a private community near the border of Clark.
Initial reports classified the blaze as a stove fire, which eventually led to a structure fire. According to Captain Ted Conley of the Scotch Plains Police, one person was home and exited the building on her own with no injuries. No neighbors were home at the time of the fire, he said.
“Once everything is done, the fire department declares the scene safe, we’ll escort her back in safe,” Conley said. “We’ll see if there’s anything she wants to get, but other than that, the neighbors will probably be relocated for a night because of the smell.”
First responders from Fanwood, Clark, Westfield and Plainfield were all on the scene. Conley credited the surrounding fire departments for their quick action, calling it a “fantastic response.”
