WESTFIELD, NJ — Outta Hand Pizza took first place at the Westfield Area YMCA’s 4th Annual Pizza Palooza Sunday, edging out previous champion Buona Pizza, which this year took home second. Gennaro’s came in third.
Votes were cast by more than 250 people of all ages who came to the YMCA to taste and pick their favorite plain pie.
“I’m very excited,” said Outta Hand owner Burim Regjaj. “It’s great to be known for giving back to the community, but it’s also nice to know people appreciate the quality of the pizza.”
Participating Westfield and Garwood pizzerias, which also included Ferraro’s, Mama’s and Rudy’s, donated their food and time to the fundraiser. The $12 entry fee for adults and children ages 4+ will benefit the Y’s Annual Support Campaign, which ensures that no one who is experiencing a bona fide financial hardship and lives or works in Westfield, Cranford, Garwood or Mountainside is turned away for inability to pay for Y programs or memberships.
The majority of awards enable participation in the Y’s early learning, school age and summer day camp programs.
It was the fourth Pizza Palooza for tasters Casey Woodruff and his son, Calvin.
“We come because we love pizza,” Casey Woodruff said between bites. “ Whichever one we think is the best we get for dinner, because we really love pizza.”
