BRIDGEWATER, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (19-11) defeated the Road Warriors (8-24) 9-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Road Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Alfredo Silverio.
The Patriots tied up the game in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Justin Trapp.
The Road Warriors regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Cody Bishop.
Somerset answered in the bottom of the frame, tying up the game on an RBI single by Julio Borbon.
The Patriots took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run double by Craig Massey that made the score 4-2. Massey would finish the game 3-for-5 with three RBI.
"I was just looking to swing at some good pitches,” Massey said. “Guys were getting on base in front of me so I was just trying to be aggressive and find a way to get them in. I was lucky enough to do that today.”
Mike Fransoso extended Somerset’s lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Patriots broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on RBI singles by Massey, Alex Castellanos, Danny Dorn, and Alfredo Rodriguez for the 9-2 final.
Nate Roe (2-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. William Gabay (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on a hit in an inning pitched.
