SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Residents of Scotch Plains, Westfield and Plainfield are reporting sightings of a male peacock running loose in their neighborhoods over the last two weeks, the most recent on June 30 around 6:30 p.m. by Camille Guerriero at her home on the south side of Scotch Plains.

“It was fine, from what I could see,” said Guerriero, who works as an interior designer. “Walking very proudly, as peacocks do. Tail feathers looked good and color was brilliant and gorgeous. Scared the heck out of my Maine Coon, who was screaming at me when I snuck around the house to try to get closer. It was already gone by the time I got to the area it was walking. Didn't see it up in the trees, where they roost in the late afternoon, or in the forest. It may have gone into the cemetery.”

Others reported seeing a male peacock on Fernwood Road in Plainfield on June 29 and in Westfield near the border of Scotch Plains last week.
