PLAINFIELD, NJ — The Union County SWAT Team and a member of the Plainfield Police Division were able to successfully negotiate a peaceful surrender with a man who had holed up in a Plainfield home for nearly six hours from Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Patrol units from the Plainfield Police Division responded to a home in the 1400 block of Coolidge Street on Wednesday around 6:45 p.m. in an attempt to arrest an individual on an arrest warrant for violation of restraining out of Mercer County, according to Police Director Carl Riley.

Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect, Edward Lindsay, outside a family member’s residence. Lindsay, seeing the officers, then entered the residence and refused to come out, Riley said.

According to Riley, there were no threats of violence to harm officers, the suspect or any other individuals.  

Lindsay surrendered without incident at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, he said.
