WESTFIELD, NJ – Authorities have recovered more than 4,000 files depicting children in sexual acts from a local man’s electronics, the Union County Prosecutor said Wednesday.

Officers arrested Gregory L. Brown, 37, at his home in the 300 block of John Street Wednesday morning and charged him with first-degree possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute, second-degree possession of child pornography and two counts of second-degree distribution of child pornography, Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan said in a news release.

Investigators uncovered the cache of child pornography through a forensic search of multiple Tumblr social media accounts associated with Brown along with multiple electronic devices belonging to him, including a mobile phone and damaged tablet, said Union County Assistant Prosecutor Derek Nececkas, who is prosecuting the case.

“A months-long investigation by the prosecutor’s office’s Special Prosecutions Unit, prompted by multiple tips received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, working through the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, resulted in the charges,” Nececkas said.

The New Jersey State Police sex offender registry shows Brown was convicted in 2000 in Pennsylvania on child endangerment charges.

Brown remained lodged at the Union County Jail in Elizabeth Wednesday, pending a first appearance and detention hearing, authorities said.
