Rake and Hoe Junior Gardeners Of Westfield Maintain Butterfly Garden

The Rake and Hoe Junior Garden Club maintain a butterfly garden at Shadowlawn Pocket Park. The Junior Garden Club of The Rake and Hoe Garden Club of Westfield NJ is busy maintaining their butterfly garden at the Shadowlawn Pocket Park.

The Juniors also learn the basics of flower arranging which will help them make flower arrangements to compete in the annual New Jersey Garden Show each February. In the 2014 show, they won five of nine Top Exhibitor Awards in the Youth Division including “Best in Show” out of more than 150 entries.

Please call Mrs. Beth Siano at 908- 233-4150 if you are interested in joining. The Rake and Hoe Garden Club of Westfield, NJ’s membership is diverse, spanning all ages, interests, and occupations. Federated with the National Council of State Garden Clubs, and the Garden Club of New Jersey, the Rake and Hoe Garden Club of Westfield, NJ has between 50 and 70 members all of whom share one thing in common: a love of flowers and gardening.

During the month of June, a display at the Westfield Memorial Library will feature the many activities and community projects of the Rake & Hoe Club of Westfield. Included in the display will be the upcoming December 2014 “Deck the Halls” tour of four elegant homes in Westfield fully decorated for Christmas, activities of the Club’s Juniors program for future gardeners, mini-flower arrangements for Westfield’s “Mobile Meals,” Holiday Gift Bags for residents of the Lyons Veteran’s Hospital, and themed ornaments for the December and Spring trees based on beloved books which are then donated to the Jardine Academy library.

As a volunteer organization, the Rake and Hoe Garden Club also provides civil service to the community by maintaining the gardens at the northside of the Westfield Train Station, the Miller Cory House Museum, the Shadowlawn Pocket Park (a Blue Star Memorial), and the Claire Brownell Wildflower Garden at the Reeve House, the home of the Westfield Historical Society.

The Rake and Hoe Garden Club’s much anticipated Holiday House Tour of four distinguished homes is scheduled for December 6, 2014. As the primary source of revenue for the group’s many service projects in Westfield and Mountainside, the 2014 Holiday House Tour is sure to be an outstanding effort on the part of every creative club member.
