WESTFIELD, NJ — Town Engineer Kris McAloon gave the town council an update on this summer’s road paving program, which is still underway, during the council’s conference meeting last week.
Work was set to continue on Roger Avenue, Grandview Avenue, Boulevard, Shadowlawn Drive, Shackamaxon Drive, Cory Place, Parkview Avenue and Raymond Street, McAloon said.
“I think it’s important to note Boulevard, the 600 block, was not just a normal mill-and-pave project,” Town Administrator Jim Gilea said. “It’s what they call a major road reconstruction. And so when the initial milling happened on Boulevard, there was a lot of unforeseen things that happened to the roadway, it hadn’t been milled in quite a while, so we had quite a lot of sinking of subsurface and so forth.”
A second course of paving on that part of Boulevard road was planned for this week, he said. Work on the 700 block is expected to begin soon.
According to the town’s website, work has already been completed this season on Sherbrook Drive, Sherman Drive, Oak Avenue, Linden Avenue, Pine Grove Avenue, Manchester Drive, Caufield Drive, Reese Place, Byron Court and Summit Court.
