ROSELLE, NJ — Dominick Richards, the suspect in Tuesday's murder-suicide in Roselle, was arrested previously for assaulting murder victim Anishalee Cortes, 22, at gunpoint only two months ago, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.
Authorities said, on Saturday, April 8, at approximately 3 a.m., Cortes arrived at the Newark Police Division’s 2nd Precinct to report that Richards had broken into her Summer Ave. residence and assaulted her at gunpoint.
Officers responded to the residence, but did not locate Richards. Detectives from the Special Victims Division obtained a warrant for Richards’ arrest and at approximately 8 p.m. that day, went to his Roselle residence on Chestnut Street with members of the Roselle Police Department.
Richards was apprehended and charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Criminal Restraint. Detectives also seized a Glock handgun from the residence.
