On Wednesday 4th May, Mary-Beth Phillips will speak about the Shakers, at the First Wednesday Luncheon of the Westfield Historical Society at noon. Mrs Phillips, who wrote a thesis on the Shaking Quakers will tell how she was captivated by the plethora of religions that found fertile ground in the new world. The Shaker religion, under its founder Ann Lee and in spite its doctrine on strict celibacy and total dependence on converts, has lasted nearly 240 years.  All those wishing to attend the luncheon are asked to make a reservation by calling (908) 233-2930 by noon, Monday May 2.  The cost for members is $21 and non-members $26, including gratuity. If you haven't had an opportunity to renew your WHS membership, you can do so at the door.
 
On Sunday, May 1st the Miller-Cory House Museum (614 Mountain Avenue, Westfield, tel 232-1776 ) will feature the Annual sheep-to-shawl festival from 1-4pm.
