Six Westfield Police Officers Sworn in at Town Council Meeting

August 6, 2013 at 9:45 PM

WESTFIELD, NJ — Six recently promoted Westfield  police officers were sworn into their new positions at the Westfield Town Council meeting Aug. 6: Christopher Battiloro as captain; William Moffitt as lieutenant; Frank Padovano as lieutenant; Lauren Maloney as sergeant; Michael Walsh as sergeant; and Thomas Ostrander as sergeant.

All officers received applause from around the packed room as they were individually sworn in. Applause was especially enthusiastic for Maloney when Westfield Police Chief David Wayman noted that she is the first female ranking officer in the history of the Westfield Police Department.

“This is truly one of the most exciting things I do as a police chief,” said Wayman at the beginning of the ceremony. He said he was proud of the Westfield Police Department and all of its members.

Thunderstorm Safety Tips

With the recent storms passing through the area I thought I'd share some of the storm safety tips I shared with my customers this week.

Unfortunately, there is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm. Just remember, When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors.

Too many people wait far too long to ...

Burial at Sea

As I plugged my phone into the outlet next to a shelf in the hotel bathroom, I had a fleeting thought that it was sort of an odd place for an outlet.  That was actually the last thought I had before my phone slipped out of my hands and fell directly below the shelf…

Into the toilet.

The good news was, the water in the toilet was clean.

The bad news was, it was still water.

Grief Starts at the Moment of Diagnosis: A Program for Children and Families Coping with Illness

When I ask people how they heard about the bereavement program at Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss, their response will often be very simple: “Everyone!”

That response fills me with hope. It tells me our community recognizes the emotional needs of grieving children. The culture of grief support for children has changed dramatically in the past thirty years since The Dougy ...

Healthcare care stocks had been one of the best performing sectors for years, but that performance came to a halt last year as concerns in the sector have moved into the spotlight. Anti-Cop Rhetoric and the Dallas Police Assassinations

July 8, 2016

The assassination of five Dallas law enforcement officers should shock and disgust us all.  No society can be safe, no rights can be assured and no justice can be found in any place where police officers are intentionally targeted for murder.

Sadly, this vicious attack comes on the heels of yet another viral video of a police shooting.  Despite that fact that they have no ...
