WESTFIELD, NJ — Just before 1 p.m., Westfield Police Chief David Wayman announced that parking restrictions were lifted now that snow has stopped falling in Westfield.
Downtown Westfield’s streets have been cleared and businesses are open.
Wayman warned that roads could still be slippery. The town's roads had been plowed, he said, although as of late this morning it was possible that some side streets had not yet received a second pass.
He noted that, with over 380 streets in town, plus the shoulders, when the Department of Public Works makes two passes that means about 800 miles of road to plow.
“I was there all night and I know that DPW workers were out all night and did everything they could,” said Wayman.
NJ TRANSIT’s Raritan Valley Line is running on a weekend schedule.
Sledding and Skiing
Making the most of the snow day? Union County has announced that sledding is permitted in Unami Park, Lenape Park and Echo Lake Park. Downhill skiing is not permitted in Union County parks, but cross country skiing is allowed locally in Ash Brook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, Oak Ridge Golf Course in Clark and Watchung Reservation.
Skating on natural waterways in Union County parks is not currently permitted.
Warinanco Ice Skating Center is closed Tuesday, as are Watchung Stable and the Trailside Nature and Science Center.
