WESTFIELD, NJ — Spring Academy, a Montessori preschool and kindergarten that also offers after-school programs for older children, held a grand-opening ceremony at its new location at 115 East Grove St. this weekend.
In addition to typical Montessori programs, the school offers language immersion programs in both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
Children in the Chinese-immersion program showed off their skills during the celebration with a song.

“We love the Montessori philosophy,” said owner Jill Ji, who years ago worked as a teacher in China. “Originally we weren’t going to do Chinese, but when we had an open house all of these people asked for it.” Spanish-immersion classes came along later.
Spring Academy was formerly located in Garwood. After years of searching for the right location, “This is going to be a permanent home,” said Ji. (The school also has a location in Warren.)
Mayor Shelley Brindle as among the attendees Saturday.
“I want to thank you for choosing Westfield and I hope that you’re here for a very, very long time,” Brindle said.
