SUMMIT, NJ — A Summit man was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train at about 6:30 a.m. Monday on the tracks adjacent to Stanley Avenue between Summit and Chatham.
According to a NJ Transit spokesperson, Michael Kane, age 46, was hit by NJ Transit train #6610, which left Dover at 5:55 a,m. and was due to arrive in Hoboken at 7:10 a.m. None of the 150 passengers on board nor the the crew were injured in the incident, which forced the closure of Morris & Essex line service between Summit and Chatham.
Service was ultimately restored with NJ Transit reporting one-hour delays as of 9 a.m. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet determined.
