WESTFIELD, NJ — Reid Snyder of Tamaques School recently won the annual TD Bank Young Heroes Award Awarded by the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia
The Young Heroes Award recognizes young people who have taken action to make positive social change in their schools and communities. Reid won for the "Social Justice Warrior" category. She received the award for breaking down gender barriers in sports, standing up for her beliefs at the Westfield Town Meeting and upstanding for students with special needs.
Reid and the 13 others between the ages of 10 and 18 were recognized at an awards ceremony at the museum. The master of ceremonies was Via Sikahema, a former football player with the Philadelphia Eagles. The winners' stories are featured for one year in a museum exhibit. They receive a certificate of achievement, medallion and other gifts.
