Pastosa Ravioli has been a Brooklyn tradition since 1966. What’s more exciting, is that after visiting the all-new Cranford location of the family owned Pastosa Ravioli, I left with a container of Shrimp Parmigiana, a box of large round Cheese Ravioli, and a container of Marinara Sauce. I was in heaven!
The portion of Shrimp Parmigiana was more than enough for two. Coupled with the Ravioli, which I boiled, and which were delicious, served with their own special Marinara Sauce, I am forever ready for unexpected company.
Throughout the busy food emporium, shelves, counters, cases, and refrigerators are filled with every conceivable Italian specialty. From fresh Mozzarella and Parmigiana Cheese, to all kinds of Pasta, complete Meals to take-out, Raviolis in sizes of medium-square, to large and round, with each variety filled with a perfectly smooth blend of Pecorina cheese, especially hand-crafted for Pastosa Ravioli. And as you walk through this vast emporium, there are cases and counters filled with olives, sausage, fresh, seasonal fruits, and of course canned tomatoes, and tomato sauce, the most fabulous Bread from Brooklyn, and whatever else you can imagine to complete a perfect meal.
Partners Anthony Ajello, Gus Cangiano, and Vincent Vallely, and his brother Bill Vallely, head the fabulous Pastosa Ravioli in Cranford.
“My family lays claim to owning the original Pastosa Ravioli in Brooklyn,” said Anthony Ajello. ”We started out by preparing only pasta and cheese, and we’re continuing to maintain our factories in Bensonhurst, Broooklyn.”
“It’s there that we prepare our entire line of specialty cheese and specialty raviolis, and where we prepare all of our fresh pastas,” adds Vincent Vallely.
“Our family has specialized in pork sausage for over one-hundred years,” continued Gus Cangiano. “We’re childhood friends who grew up in the same business. As youngsters, our parents groomed us for life in an ever-popular food environment.”
As one of the gentlemen who worked at one of the Staten Island locations, Vincent Vallely and his brother Bill approached Anthony and Gus about opening a location in New Jersey,
“I have family that live in Cranford,” said Vincent, and after seeing the town and the available location, we knew this was definitely going to be a perfect area to open our first New New Jersey location.”
“Pastosa Ravioli opened August 20, 2014,” continued Anthony Ajello. Our specialties are of course, Ravioli, fresh Pasta, fresh Mozzarella cheese, fresh sausage, specialty meats, all manner of prepared food, plus a full service catering operation.”
“We also take pride in our Grandfather Anthony’s favorite slogan. “Pastosa Ravioli, where price and quality Meat.*”
